When the clan was afflicted by a mysterious disease which killed many. Javan suggested asking the Lions of Thundera for help but Caspin and the other council members, not wanting to let go of their pride, forced him to invoke the Ancient Spirits of Evil for help instead.
The spirits agreed to help only if Javan sacrificed his newborn son Tygra and even provided him with a blade to do so. Javan could not bring himself to kill his son and so sent him away in a hot air balloon. Greatly angered by this, he Ancient Spirits bound the souls of the Tiger Clan to the living world as cursed, mindless, shape-shifting shadow monsters. Caspin blamed Javan for their suffering and always hated him.
Many years later while in the mountains, Tygra and Lion-O come across the Tiger Clan and Caspin takes them to meet Javan. Tygra is initially angry at his father for abandoning him and it is only later that he learns the truth.
Wanting to lift the curse, Caspin and some of the other Tigers try to kill Tygra but Javan intervenes and fends off the attackers, killing Caspin in the process. With his dying breath, Caspin continues to blame Javan for betraying his clan. As the sun sets, all the Tigers turn into the shadow monsters and in his mindless state, Javan lunges on his son but Tygra proclaims that he forgives him. This act of humility breaks the curse that was brought on by pride and Javan and the rest of the Tigers including Caspin are able to pass on to the next life.
Caspin appears to be a skilled fighter and can use his weapon to deadly effect.
Like all of the Tigers, Caspin is full of pride and it is this pride which eventually leads to the doom of the entire Tiger Clan.

- Caspin's name is derived from the Caspian Tiger, an extinct tiger subspecies that had been recorded in the wild until the early 1970s, and used to inhabit the sparse forest habitats and riverine corridors west and south of the Caspian Sea.
