Mumm-Rana is an ancient sorceress for good, and counterpart to Mumm-Ra. She lives in the White Pyramid on Third Earth, where her powers keep her from traveling too far. In her normal mummified form, she spends much of her time resting on an ornate smooth stone platform in order to avoid energy expenditure. She obtains her powers form the Ancient Spirits of Good.

Just like Mumm-Ra, she can transform into a much more powerful form which she does by chanting: "Ancient Spirits of Good, transform this gentle form to Mumm-Rana, the Ever Good!" While in her ever-good form, Mumm-Rana is extremely powerful. She also has great magical powers which she can use against any opponent. However, the more time she spends outside her pyramid in this ever-good form, the more of her energy is depleted and she must return back quickly to replenish that lost energy.

She at one time battled Queen Luna, grandmother to the Lunatak Luna, to stop her rampage across Third Earth. She did so by stripping Queen Luna of her magical belt, which she later lost to Luna. Fortunately the belt was destroyed eventually.

Mumm-Ra once hypnotized her into believing that the ThunderCats are evil and made her battle them. She succeeded in defeating the ThunderCats and trapping the Sword of Omens in an unbreakable cocoon. Only when Lion-O managed to convince her that the THunderCats are good and the Mutants and Mumm-Ra are evil, was her trance broken and she then turned on them.
