Stephen Perry was an American writer who worked on a number of animated shows as well as writing stories for comic books.

Perry was born in Maine in 1954 and studied at the Johnson State College which he joined in the 1970's. Perry penned scripts for the Rankin/Bass animated shows ThunderCats and SilverHawks. He also wrote for various comic books including "ThunderCats", "SilverHawks", "Timespirits" and Marvel Comics' "Psi Force".

By the early 2000s, Perry was suffering from financial problems as well as bladder cancer. However, he was helped financially by "The Hero Initiative", a not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping comic book creators, writers and artists in need. Their assistance helped him to receive proper medical care. His friend Steve Bissette also helped to raise funds for him via a Facebook fundraiser which succeeded in raising over $1000.

In May 2010, Perry along with his two roommates, Roxanne and James Davis, was reported missing from his home in Florida. After an intense police investigation, it was confirmed that James Davis murdered Perry and was charged with First Degree Murder two months later.

ThunderCats Bullet Point Quotes

  • "I discovered, a year ago, I had cancer when I walked into an Emergency Room with no insurance or no doctor. They removed a tumor, kicked me out after five days, and now the cancer is back. Thanks to the Hero Initiative, I survived long enough to get Medicaid and welfare, and now have Doctors, and can get the follow up care to try and survive the return of the cancer."
  • "The Initiative gave me the breathing room to get some Medicaid and food stamps, and while we are always in danger of losing our home, electricity and belongings at any moment, I will always be grateful from the depths of my heart for the past six months of fairly solid home life I have had with my little boy."
