This adventure begins with the ThunderCats in a race against time to save the Berbil village from a flood. Just as they complete their task, a terrible lightning storm begins. Lion-O is able to redirect the bolts using the Sword of Omens but it stunned in the process. As he recovers, the homesick Lord of the ThunderCats is told by Jaga to live in the present, not the past. Seeing his friend’s mood, Panthro suggests they travel to Mount Dark to investigate the glow left from the redirected lightning bolts. Only then do we learn that Mumm-Ra is luring them to the mountain. As they travel a narrow mountain path, Tygra, Panthro, Wilykit, Wilykat, and Snarf are separated from Lion-O and Cheetara by a rockslide. They are then attacked by Queen Sectra and her Insectoids, who live on the mountain. Tygra realises that Mumm-Ra was behind it all! Meanwhile, Lion-O and Cheetara reach the crest of the mountain and find a portal leading to… Thundera! Stepping through, the two ThunderCats find themselves home.
