Vampire Mermaids are evil beings that live in the River of Despair. Just like mermaids, they have the head and trunk of a woman and the tail of a fish. They are amphibious, able to breathe both on land and underwater easily. Like the mythological sirens, the Vampire Mermaids have beautiful and enchanting singing voices which they use to hypnotize and lure their victims towards them. Once their victim is totally under their spell, the mermaids reveal their true vampiric form and their sharp fangs and claws. They then attack their victim and feed on their blood.

The ThunderCats first encountered a Vampire Mermaid when they were travelling to Tuskania with Turmagar. Tygra became mesmerized by her singing and would have become her victim if the other ThunderCats hadn't come to his aid in time. Lion-O eventually trapped the blood-thirsty mermaid in an underwater cave.
